Dr. Carpenter grew up on a dairy farm in Northern Wisconsin. A Family Physician became his inspiration and at the age of 12 he decided to be a physician. He was accepted into medical school at Loma Linda University in southern California and interned at Deaconess in Spokane, Washington.
Enjoying the Pacific Northwest, he opened a Family Practice in Heppner, Oregon. He went back to Residency in 1978 and again returned to the Pacific Northwest to practice orthopedics in Hermiston, Oregon. Here he has raised two children. He also is an accomplished pianist and pilot.
